Stress Reduction and Well-being (18th Jan 2020)

H.O.P.E. Alliance and Mindful Self-Compassion Therapy Centre jointly present a preview
workshop for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). The MBSR practice originated
from successful scientific clinical trials at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
MBSR involves the experiential learning of healing values such as compassion, as well as
biopsychosocial coping skills for relating calmly, meaningfully and productively to stressors,
present and past experiences, and memories of a conditioned mind.

(2 CE points shall be awarded to attendees who participate in the workshop).

Trainer Peter Gan is a 68-year-old retiree from the corporate sector. Since his retirement, he
has had several years of clinical counselling experience. In 2019, he received The Courage
Fund’s Volunteer Healthcare Humanity Award for his volunteer clinical work in improving
functional recovery and social integration for persons with schizophrenia. Peter is currently
a volunteer Clinical Counsellor at a church and an associate counsellor with H.O.P.E. Alliance
Singapore, a mental wellness social enterprise. He has undergone the Mindfulness-based
Stress Reduction and Mindful Self-Compassion teacher training programmes at the University of
California/San Diego, USA.
